Making jewellery and objects extends back to when I was young – I love making something that can be worn and can hold sentimental significance for the wearer. I have come to appreciate and value how art can hold different meanings for every viewer, owner or wearer, particularly with objects and jewellery that can be worn on the body and transported to new places. I associated storytelling with art and objects, the sentimental relationship when something is acquired and collected. Throughout my tertiary studies in fine art, my notion of what I consider of ‘value’ has altered, respecting practice, methods, materials, concepts, history and personal meaning.
Through a/r/tography; a form of investigation artists and educators practise through asking questions, collecting knowledge and contemplative inquiry (Given, 2008), I capture the beginning of transition from artist to teacher-practitioner, collating ideas and personal experiences in a series of paper chains. The chains question the value placed on art and art education and my own practice.
